Soft French Bread Rolls
I stumbled upon this recipe while looking for a recipe for dinner rolls. When fresh, these rolls are soft and chewy. After a day or so, you'll need to use a microwave or something to warm them up and they'll be just as good. Additionally, we slice these rolls and toast it for our (8 month old) daughter to eat (gnaw on). These are perfect as a finger food for our little one.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Yield: 16 bread rolls
Directions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast.
- Allow yeast mixture to sit for 10 minutes or until creamy.
- Add in oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of flour periodically.
- If you have a mixer, use the dough hook on the recommended setting for dough for 8 minutes. On the Kitchenaid mixer, speed setting 2.
- In a large bowl, or the same mixing bowl, oil the sides. Coat the dough with oil by turning it inside the bowl. Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.
- Allow to sit for 1 hour or until doubled in volume.
- Punch down dough and turn it on a lightly floured surface.
- Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and roll it into a sphere.
- Place the rolls on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
- Cover the rolls with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and allow it to sit for 40 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400 F
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
